Vic Mensa Does ASMR, Talks His New Fashion Line and His Street Medics Program

If there’s one person who can do it all, it’s probably Vic Mensa. The artist is obviously best known for his music—he was named in XXL’s 2014 Freshman class alongside Chance the Rapper, Ty Dolla $ign, and Rich Homie Quan, and went on to sign with Roc Nation and nab a Grammy nom for co-writing Kanye West's “All Day.” And later on this month, he’ll be dropping his new EP, Hooligans.

The “Dark Things” rapper has also fully immersed himself in the fashion world. He’s become something of a Staple at Fashion Week runway shows and is even launching his own label, 93Punks.

Mensa has also proven to be one of the most politically outspoken artists in the game—both through his music and his actions. His songs like “16 Shots” have tackled some of the most pressing political issues facing the country like police brutality and the Flint water crisis. He’s taken part in protests, and founded a non-profit organization Save Money Save Life, which “fosters civic action through arts and entertainment.” One of the programs available through the organization is the Street Medics program which trains those in underserved communities on how to respond to gunshot and stabbing wounds.

“We’re teaching people in the most violent areas how to essentially keep themselves alive and stop from bleeding out,” Mensa tells us. “Because often ambulances take much longer to get to the ghetto than they do downtown.”

Mensa stopped by Fuse to try out some ASMR using plastic wrap, an emergency kit, and vinyl. Check out the full video to hear what magic he creates and to hear about that one time he tried to ride a horse in leather pants.
