Barbershop’s back, baby. So are Ice Cube, Eve, Cedric the Entertainer and Anthony Anderson. Barbershop 3: The Next Cut will drop in April 2016, nearly 12 years after the second one, and the trailer’s got us counting the days.
The titular establishment has merged with the women’s salon that begat 2005’s Beauty Shop, and Chicago’s South Side violence is creeping into the comedic turf. “This neighborhood was always rough, but it’s something different going on,” says Cube’s Calvin Palmer, before talking about the difficulties of raising children amid the danger.
Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man, The Best Man Holiday) is directing this time around, with the script coming from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl actress Tracy Oliver.
