UK Alt Rockers the Chevin Recount Being Mistaken for Mumford & Sons
Ever heard of the Chevin? Neither had an entire pub full of drinkers in Ireland, who mistook the rising alt-rock quartet for an entirely different (albeit still British) band: Mumford & Sons.
The Chevin—which recently helped Andrew W.K. break the drumming world record and rocked The Late Show With David Letterman and Conan last fall to promote debut LP Borderland—told Fuse about the case of mistaken identity.
"Mumford & Sons were in town and, for whatever reason, everyone thought we were them," says bassist Jon Langford. "At the end of the meal, the owner said, 'It's on me, guys' and people in the bar started buying us beers."
Adds singer Coyle Girelli, "I don't know how a bartender, DJ, manager and 15 people in the bar all managed to convince themselves we were a band we weren't. But next time we go back we owe them about $500."
