Beck Drops Head-Spinning New Track "Defriended"
After his 1800s throwback project Song Reader, which was released only in sheet music form, Beck now has two separate albums in the works: an upcoming acoustic effort and a more standard follow-up to 2008's Modern Guilt. But there's even more: Beck just released "Defriended," a summer single that won't appear on either. Thanks, Beck! Listen above.
This synth-y jam features an inventive tape loop backed by a militaristic drum beat, and it proves his Mellow Gold touch never went away. Hear select new tracks live this summer when Beck hits the road for a handful of dates, including all-acoustic gigs and headlining festival spots at San Francisco's Treasure Island and Montreal's Osheaga Fest, among others. He'll even join Bob Dylan and Wilco's Americanarama tour July 27 at New York's Jones Beach!
