My Morning Jacket Share Remembrances of Playing With Levon Helm

When Fuse sat down with My Morning Jacket, the Kentucky rockers shared stories about playing Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble jam sessions before cancer claimed his life earlier this year.

"We were fortunate to get to play with Levon [Helm] several times before he passed," singer Jim James says. "It was one of those, 'I think I'm gonna pass out' moments. You think, 'I hope I'm doing this justice.' And at the end, we came up and sang 'The Weight' with him and his band. It was unbelievable to be that close to one of your idols."

James also remembers the first time he stumbled across the roots rock legends. "I remember seeing the Band on TV and as a little kid, I was like, 'Whoa, people can sing and play drums at the same time?' I'd never seen that before."
