If you thought Yo Gotti, est. 1981, was going to hit a new level with "Down in the DM" and fade back into his Memphis sphere after, well...how's it feel to be wrong? On Dec. 23, the sparky spitter will cap the year with CM9, the newest installment in the Cocaine Muzik mixtape series he started in 2008.
Today he's hyping it with "Castro," which is a spiritual spinoff of June's G.O.O.D. Music event-single, "Champions." Gotti puts himself in a rappity-rap room with Kanye West, Migos' Quavo, Big Sean and 2 Chainz. ("Champions" had those five plus Travis Scott, Gucci Mane and Desiigner.) Listen to "Castro" here:
The structure here's crazy, with 'Ye, Gotti and Sean Don working as a banter-y trio while Tity Boi and Quavious eventually take solo spotlights. 2 Chainz does another 2016 song-steal with bars like, "Pyrex tried to sign us / Baking soda tried to sign us / Got a red stove and a gold Ford / Shit lookin' like the '9ers."
In February, Yo Gotti hit us with The Art of Hustle, featuring heavy-hitters like Pusha T, Lil Wayne, Future and Nicki Minaj. Yesterday he dropped the Kodak Black–featuring "Weatherman," off CM9. Below is full tracklist; the Avengers-y "Castro" doesn't show up till No. 8! Restraint!
