Future Hispanic History Month: Belinda Is Transcending Pop Boundaries
We're celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with Future Hispanic History Month, which will highlight rising stars who are creating history before our very eyes. Today we are honoring Belinda, the Spanish-Mexican singer who owns the title of "Princess of Latin Pop."
She began her career as a child actor on the kids' telenovela ¡Amigos X Siempre! back in 2000. But Belinda quickly made a name for herself when she sprouted into a full-blown pop star, thanks to the release of her debut self-titled album three years later.
Since then, the artist has put out three more albums (her latest being 2013's Catarsis) while maintaining her actress status with various television and movie roles. Fans of Disney Channel's Cheetah Girls franchise will recognize her from 2006's The Cheetah Girls 2, where she fittingly played Spanish pop star Marisol Duran.
