Questlove has not been shy about his admiration for Prince since his passing.

The Roots drummer has commemorated Prince’s presence by penning an essay for Rolling Stone, by introducing the Billboard Music Awards Prince tribute that featured Stevie Wonder and Madonna, and even defending that tribute after the fact.

In an Instagram post inspired by the recent issue of The Source dedicated to Prince, Questlove added to that celebration with a humorous but also very sincere list of reasons why Prince should be remembered as a “#HipHopPioneer.” Among those numbered points include: “lives by the DIY creed”; “refused 2 b ordinary & eschewed the proper English language as a ways 2 communicate”; and “used his music to give his views on the po po, politicians, gun control, war, god, squares & ‘the man.’”
