Madonna & Stevie Wonder Honor Prince at Billboard Music Awards Performance
Unbelievably, yesterday marked one month from the day Prince passed away at the age of 57, and after the music world spent the past 31 days honoring the musical legend, Madonna humbly offered her own tribute with a performance at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards that featured a huge special guest.
During the performance, Madonna decided to forgo the medley of hits and simply present a cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U," backed by a chorus and string section. Purple petals fell on the screen behind Madge, a swiveling throne was utilized, and you thought it was over... until Stevie Wonder emerged with Madonna to serenade the arena with "Purple Rain."
As the pair of legends honored a late icon, and purple lights illuminated Las Vegas, it was a fitting end to the awards extravaganza. "Thank you, Prince Rogers Nelson, for all that you have given us," Madonna intoned to end the night.
