In 2015, Marvel celebrated the strong connection between hip hop and comic books with 50 variant covers for its series, each one a superhero-fied rework of a classic album cover. The project gave us pitch-perfect takes on multigenerational records by artists like Drake, Jay Z, LL Cool J, Missy Elliott, Eminem and Mobb Deep. But the group that started it all was Run the Jewels, the duo whose aesthetic and now-iconic fist-and-gun sign graced the front of Howard the Duck and Deadpool.
Tomorrow, Jan. 6, Marvel will release The Hip-Hop Covers, a free 32-page comic containing 14 of the hip hop variant covers. To celebrate, Run the Jewels' own Killer Mike wrote a loving introduction, premiering exclusively on Fuse. Enjoy.
