Listen to the Excellent Grimes Song Rihanna Rejected
UPDATE: Grimes premiered three new tracks at Governors Ball last weekend, including "Go," written for Rihanna. Unlike traditional Grimes songs, "Go" is aggressively beat-heavy—think more mainstream EDM than Grimes' straightforward ephemeral pop. Ri Ri rejected the song, but by the sound of it, we think she might have made a mistake! Listen above.
6/6 Story: Grimes is heading to NYC's Randall's Island this weekend for Governors Ball, and though she's got a few surprises up her sleeve, she's revealed a pretty big secret before the festival. She's going to be singing some new songs at Gov Ball, and one of them is a track she wrote for Rihanna—which Rihanna apparently turned down.
The Canadian electronic producer/singer broke her own news via Twitter this afternoon, telling followers that the new stuff may not sound like what we've come to expect from Grimes, because it was intended to be performed by everyone's favorite Peter Griffin impersonator instead. She also said that tracks off Visions have gotten a serious sonic facelift and sound "much better now."
Read Grimes' tweets in full below, and be sure to keep an eye out for some potentially new tracks in the weeks following the festival. If the new songs go over brilliantly (which they will, 'cause she's rad!), who knows—we may get a leaked track from Grimes sooner vs. later.
