Listen to Sevyn Streeter's Entrancing Anthem "nEXt" ft. Kid Ink
One of last year's under-the-radar delights was the singer Sevyn Streeter, whose December EP Call Me Crazy, But... packed rich, textured production and beguiling songwriting into a seven-song package. A standout track from the record was the closer "nEXt," which is now Streeter's newest single in the form of a remix & video featuring the sudden-star Kid Ink.
Kid Ink doesn't add much to the original, but he doesn't take anything away, either. Instead, the focal point remains the production from D'Mile, who lets a hypnotically catchy keyboard melody float over deep guitar etches. The contrast—mischievous and flirty versus meditative and grounded—is perfect for Streeter as she hatches a plan to get back together with an old flame: "How can my ex-boyfriend be my next boyfriend? / I need to know."
Like Streeter's breakthrough hit "It Won't Stop," "nEXt" is the rare radio song content with seducing you slowly. Watch it above.
