Exclusive: Keyshia Cole Talks Knocking New Ballad "Next Time"
R&B songstress Keyshia Cole teased her sixth studio album today with the fiery "Rick James" (listen below), the first of two lead singles. While it may seem like the Oakland singer/songwriter is coming back feistier than ever, she tells Fuse first about her emotional single "Next Time (Won't Give My Heart Away)," a track sure to delight longtime supporters.
"It's about being in a relationship, experiencing the downs of the relationship and not wanting to go there again, of course" she explains. "[It's also about] giving your heart away and allowing somebody to be able to be that close to you where they can hurt you."
Keysh adds that the new song is reminiscent of fan favorite "Trust," a duet with songbird Monica that went Top 5 on the R&B charts in 2009. "It's sort of a ballad, like the 'Trust' record that I did with Monica, but without the extra female. I actually had 'Trust' on the album before I got a female on it and I ended up throwing her on there. But it's the same process with this one."
