Stepping aside from her sultry, electro-tinged R&B for BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge, rising star Banks pulls out the acoustic guitar for a stunning, stripped-down take on Aaliyah's 1998 masterpiece "Are You That Somebody?"
Acoustic versions of slow jams are typically either one-listen curiosities or maddening treacle, but Banks' impassioned delivery of the Dr. Doolittle soundtrack song (yeah, that's how this classic track debuted) makes her reinterpretation entirely justified. It's lovely, genuine and it even retains a little of the otherworldly mystique of the Aaliyah original (minus the baby noises).
