Deadmau5 Replaces Hospitalized Avicii as Ultra Headliner
Update: Ultra Music Festival has announced that deadmau5 will replace Avicii on Saturday and close out the festival's mainstage for the night. Commenting on the news, deadmau5 tweeted, "well... it looks like my stay here in miami just got extended for a couple more days ;)" and also "glad i could help a friend out and be with my fans tomorrow night :)"
Bad news for EDM fans in Miami: Avicii has officially canceled his headlining set at Ultra 2014.
The "Wake Me Up" hitmaker was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after suffering from severe abdominal pain. His manager told the Miami Herald that a blocked gallbladder and his ensuing fever are to blame for the last-minute cancellation.
"He was really disappointed that he wasn’t able to perform for all his fans," Avicii's manager told the paper.
Thursday evening, Avicii canceled a hotel show in Miami following his unexpected hospitalization. A rep initially told Billboard that he was "doing better" and was "going to be fine," but that report seems to have been overly optimistic.
Meanwhile, fellow Ultra headliner Afrojack announced Friday that he was also heading to the hospital for being "dehydrated and overworked." While Avicii has cancelled all his other scheduled appearances in Miami over the weekend, there's no indication Afrojack will miss his Sunday spot at Ultra.
