The Fray Heat Up Fuse Studios, Cover Miley Cyrus
Last night's Fuse Live: The Fray Presented by TaxSlayer.com show was one that will go down in Fray fan history. The New York area was pounded by a heavy snowstorm Monday morning, and Fuse's NYC HQ was no exception. But that didn't stop a huge legion of The Fray's biggest fans to weather their way through the snow, slush and freezing rain to see the band's studio set. And the guys recognized the dedication and handsomely repaid their supporters.
In the half-hour broadcast, the pop-rockers performed a career-ranging set. There were past radio smashes like breakout debut "Over My Head (Cable Car)," which saw the crowd throwing up their hands on the chorus, while "You Found Me" inspired the audience's many couples to sing the touching lyrics to their significant others. There were also new favorites like their latest Billboard Hot 100 hit, "Love Don't Die," off forthcoming LP Helios that ignited a clap-a-long group dance.
The quartet was particularly taken aback when it learned that Fuse.tv readers had voted to hear new Helios track "Wherever This Goes" live. "We've done [fan votings] before, and 'How to Save a Life' always beats the crap out of every song," frontman Isaac Slade told the audience, referring to the band's highest-charting single to date. "We're honored you picked a fourth-record song."
But even after performing straight through the half-hour broadcast—with handlers tuning the guys' instruments during songs so the band wouldn't need to waste any precious time—the Fray boys still wanted to gift fans with more live music. They asked the Fuse TV crew, "One more song?"—answered by a huge scream from the crowd—and the band led a group sing-along to "How to Save a Life," eliciting cheers from the crowd after each verse before the song transformed into a piano-rock version of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball." It was a special moment to see The Fray embrace one of the biggest pop hits of last year, and one that fans inside Fuse's studios will be able to brag about seeing up-close.
