Bobbi Kristina—the 20-year-old daughter of the late, legendary Whitney Houston—revealed she pulled off a secret wedding to her longtime boyfriend, 24-year-old Nick Gordon, via Twitter.
#HappilyMarried," Kristina tweeted, along with a picture of her massive ring. "SO #InLove. If you didn't get it the first time that is." The defensive tone of her marriage announcement is understandable. Public response to Kristina dating Gordon has ranged from unease to disgust, with many people believing the two are essentially brother and sister as they were raised together for several years.
But despite confusion, Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon are not biologically or legally related. Although Houston took Gordon into her home when he was 12 and her daughter was 8, she never legally adopted him. "I'm tired of hearing people say 'eww your [sic] engaged to your brother," Kristina said last summer. "My mom never adopted him. In fact, mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating."
After announcing their engagement in 2012, the couple called it off a month later. But in 2013, they revealed they were back on, and as of yesterday, they're legally married. Congrats and best of luck.
