Macklemore Dominated 2014 Rap GRAMMY Categories
Tonight is the night for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis—they dominated the 2014 GRAMMYs in the hip hop realm.
Not only did they nab the Best New Artist award (which is sort of strange, since they've been hustling for years) and two trophies for "Thrift Shop"—Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance—but they grabbed the extremely competitive Best Rap Album GRAMMY for The Heist.
That choice is bound to raise the ire of numerous hip hop heads. Even before the GRAMMYs, Macklemore admitted as much to the Source: "If we win a Grammy for Best Rap Album, hip hop is going to be heated. In terms of [that category], I think it should go to Kendrick Lamar. I understand why hip hop would feel like Kendrick got robbed."
Well, looks like the Best Rap Album choice this year disappointed both Macklemore and Kendrick. That being said, the two clearly aren't angry at each other: Mack posted this Instagram pic of a text convo he had with Kendrick on GRAMMY morning and it was nothing but love between the two.
But Mack & Ry did lose to Justin Timberlake & Jay Z's "Suit & Tie" for Best Music Video. Well, you can't have everything.
