Kelis Officially Set for April Album Drop
It's official: Kelis will be dropping Food, her first LP in three years, on April 28th of 2014.
Although we learned back in March that the "Milkshake" singer would be teaming up with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek for an album, there was no release date in sight.
A press release obtained by Pitchfork described the album as "a soul record that's as raw and alternative as it is classic."
We got a taste of Kel's new sound back in April with the release of the jazzy and somewhat oddball "Jerk Ribs."
"Ribs" veers in a different, more exploratory direction than her previous efforts (although it should be noted that 2010's Flesh Tone was notably forward-thinking.)
Kelis also announced last spring that she would be signing with UK experimental label, Ninja Tune.
After the recent critical success of very out-of-the-box albums like Yeezus, Food could not have better timing.
