Here's an early Christmas present for Mrs. Carter: Her surprise Beyonce album might attain platinum sales in a mere 10 days.
Beyonce's self-titled fifth has already moved 617,000 copies (in just three days!) after its surprise release last Thursday night. Industry forecasters suggested it would move another 260,000 copies in its first full week of sales, but Billboard reports those figures are now being dismissed.
It looks like Beyonce will sell at least 340,000 units this week, which would bring the grand total to 957,000. Now as you can probably recall from high school math, 957,000 is less than 1,000,000, but many industry insiders are suggesting her album will reach platinum once sales from digital retailers other than iTunes and physical copies of the album (which have started reaching stores) are tallied up.
Bey recently admitted she was "terrified" of releasing her album without promotion, but it looks like her non-promotion promotion stunt has worked out better for her than traditional means of advertising.
