Watch: Tame Impala Side-Project Pond Blast Off to Space in "Midnight Mass"
An apt descriptor for the sound created by Pond, the Tame Impala offshoot and one of Fuse's favorite bands from Down Under, is "spacey" and "psychedelic." Both apply to the band's just-released new music video for "Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone)." Watch above!
In the clip, the band—including three members of Tame Impala—show an astronaut's failed attempt at reaching space. Frontman Nick Allbrook (the bassist in Tame Impala) plays the triumphant astronaut, who is ultimately killed during blast off on his voyage to space, as fans watch from the launch pad, first with smiles and later tears. It's a trippy, frenetic video with a quick cut-paste editing style, and a perfect match to the nervous, psychedelic sound of "Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone)," from Pond's latest album, Hobo Rocket.
Fuse fell for Pond after the release of their 2012 album Beard Wives Denim, which was produced by and features the drumming of Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker. The band later visited Fuse HQ, too—check out the video interview right here.
