DIIV Frontman on Drugs Arrest: "Sky Ferreira Did Nothing Wrong"
UPDATE: DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith tweeted about his recent drug arrest, claiming the cops who took him and Sky Ferreira into custody were in the wrong. "What you're reading is a police blotter, not the outcome of a court case," Smith wrote. "These cops wanted to f-ck us, and they did. Sky did nothing wrong."
Singer-model-actress Sky Ferreira and her boyfriend Zachary Smith Cole, frontman for Brooklyn indie darlings DIIV, were arrested in Saugerties, New York, on Friday night. The couple were charged with a number of offenses, including possession of ecstasy and heroin, the Daily Freeman reports.
Smith was allegedly pulled over after he "made several vehicle and traffic infractions." A registration check showed the license plates on the vehicle, a truck, were stolen and Smith was wanted on an outstanding vehicle and traffic warrant.
"While taking Smith into custody, officers found a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin," the report continues (a "deck" is a small bag of heroin). Ferreira, the passenger, was found in possession of Ecstasy and resisted arrest, both of which are misdemeanor offenses. The two were taken to Ulster County jail, arraigned and released on bail.
On Saturday, DIIV performed at BasilicaSoundScape, a music festival in Hudson, New York, co-presented by Pitchfork.
Sky Ferreira's debut album, Night Time, My Time, is due out October 29.
