Mercury Prize Shortlist: Arctic Monkeys, Savages, Laura Mvula & More
Started in 1992, the Mercury Prize is a prestigious award issued each year to the best British album, as decided by a panel of British music critics and industry types. In the past 21 years, the award has gone to a who's who of Brit musicians—PJ Harvey, the xx, Pulp, Portishead, Antony and the Johnsons, Franz Ferdinand, Alt-J and more have all nabbed the prize. And many, many more big names have been nominated.
The shortlist for this year's award have been unveiled; there's returning favorite Arctic Monkeys and veteran David Bowie, plus other indie acts like R&B experimentalist James Blake, EDM duo Disclosure, girl-punk outfit Savages and soul songstress Laura Mvula.
