Twerking is dead; long live twerking. Ten years from now, when our Tweets are telepathically posted and a 30-year-old Miley Cyrus, fresh off tongue extension surgery, shocks us into submission with a new dance involving licking her own thighs, we shall look back at 2013 as the year that twerking jumped the shark.
And when music journalists of the future compile their "History of Twerking" listicles, they will point to Diplo's attempt to break the World Twerking Record at the upcoming Electric Zoo festival as both the dance's apex and nadir.
In a recent Instagram video and tweet, the producer released a call-to-asses to "Butts around the world" to build an "Electric Zoo Twerk Wall," asking 18-and-older potential ass-shakers to submit a video in the hopes of breaking both a world record and their relationships with their fathers.
