It's Official: Kanye West Booked for 'SNL' Finale
Following a barrage of unsubstantiated rumors, Saturday Night Live has confirmed the musical guest for this season's May 18 finale: Kanye West! Here's why this is potentially huge.
Details on the daddy-to-be's upcoming sixth album are sparse, but two months before the November 2010 release of his fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, 'Ye appeared on SNL to perform two new tracks. He draped the stage in white and recruited a troupe of ballerinas for his epic performances of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy singles "Runaway" and "POWER." It was a memorable moment in SNL history, for sure.
Naturally, SNL is a huge promo slot—Vampire Weekend play the season's penultimate episode on May 11, three days before their new album Modern Vampires of the City drops. So it's unlikely 'Ye is using the platform to play his greatest hits.
Which now begs the question: Is new Kanye music imminent? And, if so, which will come first: His baby with Kim Kardashian (she announced her pregnancy in December) or his new album? The race is on!
