Justin Bieber: ‘Hopefully [Anne Frank] Would Have Been a Belieber”
It being April 14th, you can rest assured this is (sadly) not an April Fools' joke.
The latest in the string of bizarre missteps by the teenage heartthrob occurred in the form of a comment he left in the guest book after visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on a stop made in-between shows for his current European tour. Bieber wrote:
“Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."
Doh!!! And you were doing so well with that first part, Biebs!
Unfortunately for Justin, many people have taken offense that he used the house of a girl famous for her diaries documenting life under the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands to drop a note that kinda appears as self-promotion. And the countless news sites covering the story are not making the situation go away.
Although, according to the Telegraph, Museum spokesman Maatje Mostart took up for the star, saying the museum did not see anything offensive in the remarks, their Facebook fans seem to disagree.
Comments on the House's page included things like:
"I suppose his next stop is Berlin where he will re-enact JFK's famous "Ich bin ein Belieber" speech!"
and
"What a immature and disgusting thing to write in her book! As an American I am truly sorry he went there and did this!"
Frank died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March of 1945 at the age of 15.
Remember: a time and place for everything, Justin!
