Jay-Z Lashes Out About Cuba Trip, Nets on New Song "Open Letter"
The nice thing about being the most powerful rapper in hip hop is that conventional things like release dates and marketing plans may not always apply. So when, say, the press is questioning your recent trip to Cuba with your wife or wondering why you divested ownership in that basketball team you own, you can grab Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, hop into the studio and drop a bomb on the world.
And so we have the appropriately titled "Open Letter," a snapshot of Jay-Z's mind circa April, 2013. Jigga discusses his partial ownership of the Brooklyn Nets ("Would have brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free/Except I made millions off you f-ckin dweebs/I still own the building/I’m still keeping my seat") and politics ("Boy from the hood but got White House clearance/Sorry y’all, I don’t agree with y’all parents/Politicians never did sh-t for me/Except lie to me, distort history") over a mid-tempo warped-synth track.
