Diplo, 2 Chainz, Tyga & Afrojack Remix Psy's "Gangnam Style"
If you thought “Gangnam Style” was finally getting old… think again!
Psy's recruited Diplo and Afrojack to put a fresh spin on the global dance hit. Gone is the original's four-on-the-floor, LMFAO-style production with the two super producers giving the song a complete makeover.
Diplo opted for a mash of wonky synths, military drums and Indian-inspired flutes for his remix (above). He adds an American hip hop spin with verses from 2 Chainz and Tyga. Yet, while “Gangnam Style” was applauded for its deeper social commentary, their lyrics don’t go further than subject lines regarding girls and partying. It's still very cool to hear a K-pop/hip hop mash-up.
Last November, Afrojack told Fuse that Psy picked him as the only “Gangnam Style” remixer. That didn't prove to be exactly true, but Afrojack still brought his A game for the mix (below). The new version has a slick, electronic bounce production before the beat drops into a mechanical, woozy dance breakdown. EDM heads rejoice!
While we’re unsure why Psy would release these remixes now (months after his single topped the charts) perhaps it’s a lead in to something bigger? Psy is said to be making his comeback in March or April. It’s one of our most anticipated albums of 2013, so we’re pulling for Psy to prove he’s more than just a one-hit-wonder.
