Birdman: Lil Wayne Seizure Was Not Drug-Related
UPDATE: (3/18): Birdman confirmed to Hot 97’s Angie Martinez that Lil Wayne had a seizure but said “he’s doing much better now and is in good shape.” He told the DJ that the hospitalization was not drug-related.
UPDATE: (10:05 PM ET): The AP is now reporting that Wayne was in fact hospitalized for a seizure, but is now recovering.
UPDATE: Lil Wayne has just taken to twitter to address reports that he's in critical condition: "I'm good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love," he writes. TMZ has also now updated their original story, deleting mentions that he had been given last rites and claiming, "Sources at the hospital tell us Wayne is still in critical condition in the ICU ... but stabilizing. We're told the prognosis is uncertain. Wayne is sleeping right now ... which is odd, because he just tweeted."
Is Lil Wayne in critical condition in a Los Angeles hospital? Good question.
TMZ is currently reporting that Wayne suffered more seizures Friday, caused by a codeine syrup binge, and is currently in the ICU in a medically-induced coma at a L.A. hospital. The celeb site, which claimed Wayne suffered a seizure earlier this week, now reports that Weezy was placed in restraints Friday because he was shaking uncontrollably and that he's currently breathing via a tube. His condition is so bad, TMZ reports, that his family is rushing to his side and that he's even been read his last rites.
Or has he...
Mack Maine, the president of Wayne's label Young Money Records, is tweeting (see below) that his friend Wayne is just fine. At 5:19 PM he wrote that "Wayne is alive and well! We watching the Syracuse game... thanks for the prayers and concern.. he will update you all soon. #love."
Maine then followed at 5:32 PM with another tweet: "We will be releasing an official statement shortly but don't believe the nonsense about comas and tubes to breathe...that's false!!"
Birdman, Wayne's mentor and the co-founder of Cash Money Records, tweeted at 5:33 PM, "My son is in good spirit..feelin much betta...be home soon.YMCMB"
So... what is really going on with Lil Wayne? Maine plays down the reports, then Birdman vaguely suggests that some medical emergency has gone down.
