Vampire Weekend Finally Title Third Album, Reveal Tour Dates
With just three months to go before Vampire Weekend's hotly anticipated third album drops, it was about bloody time the NYC indie outfit got around to naming it (and giving us the skinny on their upcoming tour). But instead of revealing the album's title the traditional route (press release) or even the 21st century way (Twitter), the quartet placed an ad in the New York Times which revealed Modern Vampires of the City as the name of their May 7 release. Sneaky!
But wait, does something feel… off? Does the idea of this venerated indie act being so obvious as to place "vampire" in an album title irk your subtle sensibilities? Fear not, faithless fans! The record's name is actually a reference to a solo track from reggae group Black Uhuru's singer Junior Reid. His classic track "One Blood" begins with him shouting "Modern vampires of the city hunting blood! Bloood!!"
See? It's uber-indie after all. And yes, this is what happens when Ivy Leaguers have three years to name a record. Check out the tracklist, tour dates and listen to Reid's "One Blood" below.
