Iggy & the Stooges Reveal 'Ready to Die' Release Date
Streetwalking cheetahs, mark April 30 on your calendars, as Iggy & the Stooges are set to release their new album Ready to Die.
Ready to Die will be the fifth overall album from the incalculably influential proto-punk outfit and their second since reuniting in 2003. And while it's their first album in 40 years to feature the contributions of ear-scorching axeman James Williamson, it's also sadly the band's first album since the death of original guitarist Ron Asheton in 2009.
Iggy Pop—who is more quotable than comprehensible—had this to say about the new album: "My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It's just a pig-headed f-cking thing I have that a real f-cking group when they're an older group they also make f-cking records. They don't just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of f-cking money." F-cking A! You still can't bring Iggy home to mom, even though he is old enough to put in a home.
As for the album's title, Ready to Die, it's uncertain if Iggy meant this as a comment about his age or as a tribute to the late rap great the Notorious B.I.G. And if it's the latter, will he soon change his name to Iggy Smalls as well? Only time will tell. Although I can tell you right now, the answer is no.
