Scottish Synthpop Trio Chvrches Get Bouncy on "Recover"
Last week, we hepped you to "The Mother We Share," the new single from Scottish synthpop trio Chvrches (pronounced, as you'd expect, Churches). The song was a melancholic beauty; like M83 with a female singer. The group hasn't wasted any time with the follow-up, dropping the gorgeous "Recover" as a follow-up.
"Recover" is the shinier, bouncier cousin to "Mother," wearing its Soft Cell-loving synthpop on its sleeve. The minor keys give "Recover" a slight goth vibe, adding a bit of eeriness and disorientation to the track. But they can't overcome singer Lauren Mayberry's upbeat vocals and buoyant rhythm. Mayberry begs to know, "If I recover, will you be my comfort?" Keep making songs like this and of course we will.
