TV on the Radio, Neutral Milk Hotel Members Headline "Occupy Wall Street" Telethon
Despite being more of a "2011 thing" for most people, Occupy Wall Street has remained a steadfest credo for many, even without a physical presence at Zuccotti Park. On November 15, New York's Le Poisson Rouge will host a "telethon" with Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, Fugazi's Guy Picciotto, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe and Janeane Garofalo in an effort to aid the Occupy movement.
"The People's Bailout: A Variety Show and Telethon to Benefit the 99%" hopes to raise $50,000 for Strike Debt, an organization "dedicated to raising public awareness about predatory debt practices, debt resistance and mutual aid." Hedwig and the Angry Inch creator John Cameron Mitchell and The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead will also appear at the event.
Rolling Jubilee will webcast the event live, giving all you non-New Yorkers the option to open your wallet for the cause if that's your thing. Tickets go on sale Friday, November 2 at 10 am.
