Watch Grouplove Talk Touring, Songwriting & Free Taco Bell

Los Angeles alt-rock outfit Grouplove have had quite the year.  Their 2011 debut album Never Trust a Happy Song spawned several hits, including "Tongue Tied," which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in June. Their success is, in part, thanks to having their songs featured prominently in several national ad campaigns, including ones for EA Sports, Apple and Taco Bell, which may or may not have resulted in free tacos.

“We got 500 free Taco Bell bucks, and I’ve been using them,” said drummer Ryan Rabin, jokingly.

Hannah Hooper quickly (and sadly) pointed out that they haven’t actually gotten anything for free. “No free Taco Bell, no free iPods,” she said, but both her and Rabin noted that the commercials had brought them new fans. And, when disuccsing their songwriting process, Rabin hinted at further corporate synergy.

“The voice memos on the iPhone help,” he said of songwriting.

“That’s why I got the iPhone,” singer and guitarist Christian Zucconi added.
