Long considered America's Hat, Canada may slowly be planning a hegemonic coup d'etat; a revolution that may result in the upheaval of nothing less than the entire music industry.
Avril Lavigne is engaged to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, according to People magazine.
Few knew the Canadian duo, who first linked in February to co-write a song for Lavigne's upcoming album, were even dating, but, as People reports via a friend of Lavigne, "a romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together."
"He makes her so happy," reports People via an anonymous family member. "Both of their families could not be more excited." In what is either a weird coincidence or ultimate revenge, today is Lavigne's ex-boyfriend Brody Jenner's birthday.
No word if Kroeger read about Marilyn Manson's recent admittal that he had been dating the singer, but, ya know, let's just not tell him that if we see him. Remember, though: Just because Lavigne and Kroeger are engaged doesn't mean you have to stop discussing Nickelback's creepy, bizarre new video for "Trying Not to Love You" with Jason "George Costanza" Alexander. It's still weirdly compelling.
Kroeger proposed to the singer on August 8 with a 14-carat diamond sparkler and, presumably, an arena rock-ready ballad written for the occasion involving a humble man just trying to do the right thing.
