You Need to Know: EDM Wunderkind Madeon
With Identity Festival kicking off in Cincinnati this Thursday, we have EDM on the brain at the Fuse offices this week. One of ID Fest's most interesting artists is a 17-year-old guy from France named Hugo Leclercq, better known as Madeon (pronounced Mad-ee-on).
Aside from enjoying his preternatural electronic talents, you have to marvel at the awesomeness of a kid whose debut EP has yet to drop touring with EDM heavy-hitters like Paul Van Dyk and Wolfgang Gartner, DJs who were spinning vinyl before he was even born.
But Madeon's success isn't predicated on his wunderkind status—the guy can craft a party-ready banger. Not quite as glitch-centric as many other teenage DJs, Madeon appreciates a strong sense of melodicism and knows how to make it work in a modern EDM context.
Madeon told TheWorstGuy.com that he's "heavily influenced by straight-up pop producers, the biggest being Stuart Price. I have a heavy fascination for simple, yet striking, pop productions." That comes through loud and clear on his celebrated remix for deadmau5's "Raise Your Weapon" and the first single from his upcoming EP, "Icarus," which you can and should check out below. Also totally worthwhile is his remix of the Killers' "Smile Like You Mean It," one of their songs from back when they were New Wave revivalists.
You can catch Madeon and the whole unbeatable ID Fest lineup starting July 19 in Cincinnati and touring the rest of North America throughout this summer.
