Mac Miller Reveals Pharrell Collabo "Pink Slime," Breaks Down His Lyrics
When we caught up with Mac Miller at Bamboozle in May, the Pittsburgh MC teased an upcoming secret collaborative rap project called Pink Slime. It turns out that beatmaking mastermind Pharrell Williams is Miller's new creative cohort, which is awesome news for fans of both artists. Listen to the first single "Onaroll" now.
Aside from Slime, we recently talked to Miller about the story behind the emotionally charged lyrics to his track "Poppy." With lines like, "But I'm feelin' so alone, try'na cope with your death... Wishin' I had one more day," Miller describes "Poppy" as "a definite growth for me."
"When someone passes away you feel a little bit more alone in the world. 'Poppy' was a song I wrote about my grandpa, I was real close with him," Miller tells us. "Literally the night after he died I went to the studio and recorded the jam. I had to hold back tears… it was real awkward because there are people in the studio used to me being funny… everyone just stopped."
Miller also touched on the overall importance of family to his career: "Family allows me to remember who I am, where I came from and that I'm not better than anybody else." Word.
