Meet the MMVA Nominees: Vancouver Pop-Punk Group Hedley
When the nominees were announced for Canadian awards show MuchMusic Video Awards, Vancouver pop-punk quartet Hedley, a band who, over the past seven years, has become one of Canada's most popular rock acts, was near the top of the list.
The band recently scored MMVA noms for Cinematography of the Year, Pop Video of the Year, International Video Of The Year by a Canadian and the coveted Best Video category. But before any of that, singer Jacob Hoggard was a second-place winner of 2004's Canadian Idol. And while he didn't snag the top spot, the publicity helped build a buzz for Hedley, whose eponymous debut album was released a year later.
Each of the band's four albums, including 2011's Storms, have gone platinum in the group's home country and Hedley has picked up JUNOs (Canada's answer to the GRAMMYs) for Video of the Year (2011) and Pop Album of the Year (2012).
Will the group add to their ever-growing list of awards? The MMVAs are set to take over downtown Toronto on June 17, 9p/8c, and Fuse will be there to broadcast the party as it's happening. That means live performances from SoCal beach babe Katy Perry and wiggle-wiggle pioneers LMFAO, who are also co-hosting the event.
