It's no secret that one of my favorite new bands is Australian psych-rock outfit Pond, the loose, fast and downright hilarious guitar-driven side-project for members of a better-known Aussie psych band called Tame Impala. Pond just dropped their new album, Beard, Wives, Denim, which will certainly make my Top 10 of 2012 list, and now they're treating the interwebs to an older gem—their cover of Smokey Robinson's classic "Tears of a Clown." The band—who, it should be known, are kind and charming smart-alecks that just rock live—take the Motown staple into fuzz-tastic, spazzed-out psych overdrive. Nick Allbrook steps up to the mic in place of Robinson, and the results have plastered a smile across my face. Dude is like a smaller, weirder Thom Yorke with a better sense of humor and moves like Jagger. Dig it.
