Click play above to get to know Tove Lo, the singer-songwriter currently rising up the Billboard Hot 100 with her snappy, bumpin' pop track "Habits," which is at No. 59 this week.
"I wrote the verse and chorus at different times," she says of her breakout hit, a Top 10 smash throughout the UK, Australia and Europe. "The verse I had for awhile when I was in this relationship that just ended ... But I was in New York, I had a friend who had a studio and I was staying at his place during the [Hurricane] Sandy storm. He lost electricity and heat at the apartment, so I went up to his studio where there was power. I camped out there for a couple of days, and that's when I wrote the chorus—also in a very down, dark hole at that moment.
"It was all very emotional. I like that the vocals that are on the record are the ones I did when I wrote it 'cause I think that really comes through. It was emotional to record it, and I want that to shine through in the songs."
