Arcade Fire Scoring Spike Jonze Film 'Her'
Arcade Fire are gearing up the promo machine for their fourth album, definitely out October 29th and possibly called Reflektor. Now the band have signed up to soundtrack Spike Jonze's upcoming film Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a divorcé who falls in love with a computer operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).
The credits for the film's first trailer above cite "Music by Arcade Fire," with additional music by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It's a reunion for Jonze and the band, who first linked up in 2011 in the band's Jonze-directed short film Scenes From the Suburbs.
"It’s a movie set in the slight future of L.A. and Joaquin Phoenix’s character buys the world’s first artificially intelligent operating system... it basically turns into a human, this entity, this consciousness, on his computer," Jonze told Indiewire. The relationship evolves, Jonze said, into "something more romantic," so get ready for Jonze's take on computer sex.
James Murphy has been the de facto ambassador in Arcade Fire news recently, calling the band's new album "really f-ckin' epic!" and "the food I eat for a long time now."
