'Star Wars': Lucasfilm Wants a Female Director
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy—the source of so much of the last few years' slobber-inducing Star Wars news—has some exciting intel for us today. Asked by the Guardian about all the male directors lined up for the new Episode VII - IX trilogy and the three interstitial films (among them J.J. Abrams, Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow, Looper writer/director Rian Johnson), Kennedy said, "There’s nothing we’d like more than to find a female director for Star Wars."
She went on: “There is an assumption made that the people involved should predominantly be men. There are women who are Star Wars fans. That’s what’s so insane.” The paper notes that Kennedy has routinely been approached by men looking to work on the new Star Wars, much more so than women.
