Calvin Harris Returns as a Vocalist on New Single "Summer"
Thanks to killer Rihanna, Ellie Goulding and Florence Welch collabos, Calvin Harris rose to the cream of the EDM crop. But most forget he featured on his breakout solo single, "Feels So Close." The Scottish producer's laid-back vocals dripped over a breezy house beat and landed him a Top 15 hit in America. Now, he's back on the mic for a new single "Summer."
The track opens with sneering, synthy violins as Calvin's clumsy-but-calming timbre recalls details of a summertime romance—"We fell in love / As the leaves turned brown / And we could be together, baby / Long as skies are blue"—before the beat drops into a euphoric instrumental dance break.
While the lyrics don't stray past chick-flick cliche, the beatific banger reminds us that warmer weather (and summer lovin') aren't too far away. It's already been the worst winter, like, ever, don't we all need a little "Summer" now? We're calling this one a big hit.
