With their suggestive One Direction cover story, British GQ is learning the hard way that when you're writing about objects of extreme teenage affection, you do not challenge the image (illusion? reality?) that these lads are sweet, approachable and obtainable.
Most of the furor is centered around Harry Styles' magazine cover (each of the five singers got their own—collect 'em all!) which reads, "Harry: He's up all night to get lucky" and teases the following quote from Taylor Swift's ex: "It's definitely less than 100."
Naturally, the implication that Styles has slept with anywhere between 1-99 women by the age of 19 is not sitting well with lovestruck fans. After all, you make someone a teen idol because they seem like the kind of guy you could approach at the mall and later bring home to mom. But once someone starts numbering their conquests in the dozens… well, they no longer seem so cute and innocent.
Or as one Directioner so succinctly put it on Twitter: Harry Styles is "not a god damn man whore," he is "a cupcake." (Yes! A moist, creamy cupcake....)
