"American Idol" Winner's Free Outdoor Show Shut Down by Police
All American Idol winner Kris Allen wanted to do was hit the Santa Monica pier and perform an impromptu busk for some of his fans. The LAPD, apparently, did not vote for him on the show.
According to Billboard, the singer played an acoustic set to promote his upcoming album Thank You Carmelia, blending original tracks with covers of Coolio and Justin Timberlake. Midway through his new ballad, "Should I," though, a pier officer abruptly ended the show on the grounds that Allen did not have the proper permit.
While Allen wasn't arrested, #FreeKrisAllen briefly became a trending topic on the Internet, with the singer himself admitting, via Twitter, "Well I wasn't expecting anything from tonight but that's not what I expected. Getting stopped by the cops never crossed my mind." Hey man, whatever works to get publicity, right? Check out Allen's run-in with the man above and a cop-less performance of "What Goes Around Comes Around" below.
