Riff Raff: "Skrillex, Usher, Soulja Boy On My Diplo-Produced LP"
Riff Raff, the inspiration for James Franco's character in the new Selena Gomez/Harmony Korine/Gucci Mane movie Spring Breakers, has a lot going on. Like today, according to Diplo's Twitter, he's in the studio with Diplo, Simon Rex/Dirty Nasty, and Andy Milonakis. Yeah, Andy Milonakis.
Last week, when we spoke with Riff Raff about James Franco and Spring Breakers, he also dropped some news about what he's working on.
"Five albums getting worked on. One with Diplo," said the flamboyantly-styled Houston rapper. "We have about 10 tracks done but we are still adding on." Riff Raff said the album's got some really quality guests on it too: Skrillex, Usher, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Mystikal and Rusko.
Oh, and "I think Diplo and Dr. Dre are co-producing a track."
Plus, "Diplo is producing a lot of s**t for Justin Bieber, so you might catch a surprise of Justin Bieber rappin' on a song with me."
Riff Raff noted that Diplo would be rapping on their album in addition to producing it, and that the LP is slated to drop sometime this summer.
So is it possible that Riff Raff's album will indeed have one of the biggest (and most eclectic) guest lineups in the history of rap music?
We emailed Diplo's representative for confirmation on the duo's collabo: "Diplo hasn't produced anything with [Riff Raff] specific for an album... but he has done a lot of stuff with him at the Mad Decent studio." It's hard to tell exactly what's going on here, and what the communication is like between Diplo and Riff Raff and Diplo's press rep, but I think it's a minor misunderstanding. Either way, one thing's for sure: Diplo and Riff Raff (and others) are at work in the lab. Diplo is currently producing Justin Bieber's album and is something like the most well-connected dude in music.
I love Riff Raff and I hope all these dudes really are on his album, but I'd be remiss as a blogger if I didn't cock my head a bit here. I don't know if any pop star could get Dr. Dre, Skrillex, Usher and Justin Bieber on their album. Even Dr. Dre can't get Dr. Dre on his album!
So if you're reading this right now Riff Raff, I will buy your album no matter what, even if Dre, Skrillex, and Usher aren't on it, because you are the man.
Anyway, here's my favorite Riff Raff video. It's like 10 episodes of Chappelle's Show distilled to three minutes.
